Shaugnessy is a great space to host your wedding reception. Whether you're getting married in Van Dusen or else where in the city, it's conveniently located. It has a separate ceremony and dinner space, plus space for a dance floor later in the evening. You can even add on an option to take photos in the gardens during your reception!

We come to Shaughnessy often for family meals with different ages and food preferences. They dependably serve familiar, casual food offerings. Weeknights are usually quiet with no reservation needed; weekends can be busy and often booked out for a wedding in the summertime so always best to make a reservation. Service is helpful and knowledgeable. On our most recent visit (a busy long weekend lunch) we waited over an hour for food and our appetizers were taken off our bill. Food quality is generally good. It occasionally misses the mark, for example under or over-seasoned, but these things are forgivable. The ambiance is the best part of this restaurant. You are surrounded by the beautiful gardens and it feels like you are tucked away far from the bustling city. Always a delight.

Lovely place with a great view of the gardens. I really enjoyed the clam chowder, it was outstanding. My wife had the chicken pot pie and she loved it. Overall the food and service were excellent, congratulations to management and staff.

We had a lovely lunch at Shaughnessy Restaurant. The setting is absolutely beautiful—surrounded by greenery with lots of natural light, it felt like we were dining right in the park! Our meals were well presented and everyone enjoyed their lunch. The lemon tart for dessert was also great! It did take around 30 minutes for the food to arrive, but the quality and ambiance made the wait worthwhile. Our server was friendly and attentive. A great spot for a relaxed meal in a stunning setting.

We visited Shaughnessy Restaurant at VanDusen Botanical Garden on May 30, 2026, for a get-together with a friend and had a very pleasant experience. The setting was peaceful and charming, providing the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed conversation. The food was excellent, and everything was presented beautifully. A special thank you to Milo for his attentive and welcoming service. He was friendly, professional, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. We truly enjoyed our time at the restaurant and look forward to coming back again. We would also like to respectfully recommend him for any future promotion or recognition opportunities within the restaurant, as his service was exemplary.

Nestled in a stunning garden setting, this restaurant offers a dining experience that’s as memorable for its food as it is for its surroundings. Nature is quite literally part of the ambiance—don’t be surprised if a curious bee or two stops by to say hello. Just consider it part of the open-air charm! The baby back ribs are the undeniable star of the show—fall-off-the-bone tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The sauce hits that perfect sweet-savory balance without overwhelming the meat. The mixed green salad was a refreshing counterpoint: crisp, vibrant greens topped with prawns grilled to smoky, tender perfection. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Spanish coffee is a bold way to end your meal. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart—brandy-forward, aromatic, and warming in every sense. Between the garden vibes and standout dishes, this place offers a uniquely relaxed, slightly wild (in the best way) dining experience. Bring your appetite—and maybe a little bug spray.
